Red Deer Elections
Learn about requirements for third party advertisers, registration and financial disclosures.
The 2025 Election advertising period runs from May 1 to October 20. During this time, third party advertisers can accept and spend contributions to publicly support or oppose candidates.
Third party advertisers must register with Elections Red Deer if they plan to spend or accept a minimum of $1,000 to advertise in the 2025 Red Deer election.
Recent amendments to the Local Authorities Election Act include rules regarding the finances and accountability of third parties that intend to engage in election advertising.
Third party advertisers are required to know who is eligible to make a contribution, understand expense limits and complete all reporting requirements.

Any changes to the registered information, such as an update to group membership, must be reported to Elections Red Deer within 30 days. Updates can be sent by email to elections@reddeer.ca.
Third party advertisers already registered with the provincial government – meaning that they are active in more than 10 jurisdictions – do not need to register with Elections Red Deer.
Third party advertisers must register with Elections Red Deer if they plan to spend or accept a minimum of $1,000 to advertise in the 2025 Red Deer election.

A third party with a governing body must also provide a copy of a resolution authorizing the third party to incur election advertising expenses.
Note: If a third party advertiser intends on advertising in 10 or more municipalities, they can register with Provincial Registrar instead of registering in each individual municipality. Contact Municipal Affairs for more information.

In accordance with the LAEA, third party advertisers must file Form 28 and an Advertising Return Report by March 2, 2026. Failure to file a completed statement on time will result in a mandatory late filing fee of $500.
All statements must be signed by the third party advertiser’s registered Chief Financial Officer and must disclose all donations, whether financial or an in-kind service or item:
