Red Deer Elections 2021
Sessions are designed to inform potential candidates of the basic election processes, steps to become a candidate, and to provide an overview of candidacy requirements.
The dates will be announced at a later date.
A person may file a nomination to become a candidate for a general election within the nomination period beginning on January 1 in a year in which a general election is to be held and ending at 12 noon on nomination day (September 20, 2021).
Visit Nominations and How do I Run? for more information.
The Returning Officer will host a session for all election candidates following nomination day (September 20, 2021). This meeting will inform candidates with the election process, demonstrate the electronic ballot counting equipment, and to answer any questions candidates may have. Open to all candidates (Mayor, Councillor, School Trustee) and their campaign managers.
The dates will be announced at a later date.
A forum is an opportunity for candidates to reach out to the public. Forums can take a couple of different shapes:
Forums are hosted by business/special interest groups and are not a part of the legislated election process. The City is not involved in coordinating these events.
Visit Election Forums for more information.
Nominations are signed by a minimum of five eligible voters and include the signed statement of the candidate. Nominations must be filed with the Returning Officer in the nomination period (starting January 1, 2021 and ending on 12 noon on Monday, September 20, 2021).
