Nomination Process

Nominations will be accepted by the Returning Officer.

Changes to the Local Authorities Election Act allow the Returning Officer to accept nominations throughout the nomination period which ends at 12 p.m. on Nomination Day (Monday, September 22, 2025).

The Nomination Process

  1. Submit your Notice of Intent form.
  2. File the completed nomination documents with the Returning Officer before 12 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025.

    Candidates are encouraged to make an appointment to have their papers signed by emailing elections@reddeer.ca or by visiting City Hall at 4914 48 Avenue, Red Deer.

Eligible signatures: Persons signing a candidate’s nomination paper must be an eligible elector in Red Deer and the form must include original hand-written signatures. Digital signatures are not accepted.

Minimum signatures: It is recommended that candidates obtain more than the minimum required number of electors to sign the form in case one or more electors are not eligible to nominate.

Signed paper: This form must be signed by a Commissioner for Oaths in and for Alberta or the Returning Officer.
