Red Deer Elections
For City Councillor
City of Red Deer
Ashley MacDonald, born in Alberta and raised across Canada, has called Red Deer home since 2001. A former Oil Sands worker, he now serves the community as a Mental Health Worker supporting vulnerable populations. A proud union Shop Steward and past Local Secretary, Ashley has run municipally, provincially, and federally, always advocating for a safer, more sustainable, and prosperous Red Deer for generations to come.
Proper Staffing for a Safe and Secure Red Deer | Dynamic Staffing has cut overtime but left gaps in coverage, low morale, and safety concerns. As your councillor, I’ll end this model, restore full staffing, hire strategically, and prioritize public safety and firefighter well-being. |

Real Solutions to the Housing Crisis | Red Deer rents are rising, with vacancies at just 1.6%. The City’s plan leans on private supply and lacks new public housing. We need non-market, permanently affordable homes—putting people before profit and tenants before developers. |
Diversify our Local Economy for a Better Future | Red Deer’s 6.7% unemployment shows our reliance on oil & gas is unsustainable. We must diversify—grow logistics, agri-food processing, clean energy, and revitalize downtown—to create stable jobs and build a resilient local economy. |
We Need a Bold Plan for Our Future | Red Deer deserves bold climate action. Instead of weak goals, we need real investment in clean energy, better transit, greener spaces, and sustainable jobs to build a healthier, resilient future for our community. |
We Deserve Financial Responsibility & Transparency | I will ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, decisions are open and accountable, and city operations are efficient, fair, and focused on building a stronger, sustainable community. |
