    PARKS, Gail

    For City Councillor
    City of Red Deer

    About the Candidate

Thank you to those who signed my nomination. It has been my honour to serve my city in many ways. In 2007, it was my good fortune to be elected for one term to City Council. Moving to Red Deer I found the river meandering through a vibrant, successful, beautiful city. I want that back, I hope you do too.

    Candidate Priorities

CRIME:Revitalization has not worked; we can do better. Stats Canada ranks Red Deer 4th in crime severity among 41 cities, with auto theft and break-ins among the top 10. We must work to make Red Deer a leading cities in Canada.
HOUSING:Urgent! Remove the Housing Accelerator Fund Agreement, protect vulnerable areas through heritage designations, and ensure dense new subdivisions are safe—emergency vehicles must be able to reach every residence quickly.
FIRST RESPONDERS:We must fully staff our firehalls, even explore overstaffing if it reduces costly overtime. Protecting response times and residents' safety is critical. Our first responders run towards danger - we must back them.
POLICE:Red Deer is the only large city in Alberta without its own police force. We could use Grande Prairie as our model with amendments for a made-in-Red-Deer solution—complete with a Police Commission—to strengthen accountability and community safety.
BUDGET:Irresponsible spending must end. I want a budget, not a service plan. That means line-by-line attention to needs only. Careful discipline will protect essential services while keeping tax rates affordable for every Red Deer family.
