Red Deer Elections
For City Councillor
City of Red Deer
I want to be a civic leader who will communicate a clear vision and mission for our community. We emigrated to Canada in 1975; my father started a business that served this community for 35 years. Red Deer has been my home since, except for university and my first teaching jobs. I want to be a part of the new Red Deer, building on the difficult challenges we have seen in her history with the help of our business community to foster economic growth and our public services to foster personal care
Transparency - Community Town Hall meetings | The City should host biannual town hall meetings on specific issues. These should be hosted in different areas of the city to gain insight in the grassroots views of citizens. City budgeting should always be an issue discussed. |
---|---|
Mental Health Advocacy | We need to restore the 211 call centre and link it directly to services that can deal with mental health issues, either via AHS or community support groups. Addiction and homelessness are symptoms of a need that is not being addressed. |
Diversified Economy - Infrastructure deficits | The City needs to work with stakeholders to create a more robust online system to encourage gig economy business to be set up in Red Deer. We currently do not have the bandwidth if we wish to encourage this type of small business. |
Diversified Economy - Technological Expertise | The City needs to approach RDP to expand their computer based courses to create expert workers. The City should approach large tech companies to consider Red Deer as a viable candidate for expansion due to our geographic location and expert workers |
Need City Services? Call 311 | The City needs to create a 311 call centre to handle non emergency citizen inquiries including the reporting of petty crime, graffiti, litter clean up, pothole locations, parking enforcement, missing animals, or rec centre hours. |
